At Chin Chin Coffee Roasters, we are committed to sustainability and protecting the environment. We understand the importance of responsible sourcing and production practices to minimize our impact on the planet.
OUR PRACTICES:
- Fluid Bed Roasting - the lowest energy consumption per pound of coffee roasted
- No fossil fuels used in roasting
- We pay TerraCycle (www.terracycle.com) $200 a year to take our plastic grain pro bags (coffee comes in Grainpro bags inside a burlap bag). They recycle the bags and manufacture them into consumer products. Grainpro bags are not recyclable in municipal recycling programs.
- We donate coffee chafe to our local community garden
- We donate ALL OUR jute bags to a local farmer who is also a vendor at the Ottawa Farmer's market. He uses them to keep down weeds between their crops. We also give them to local gardeners for winter plant protection.
- We donate a percentage of all sales to South Nation Conservatory for tree planting in our community
- Our website and server is 100% green powered
- Delivery using our e-bikes
- All green coffee we purchase is sustainably grown, directly traded or Rainforest Alliance certified or fair trade.
Supporting sustainable farming and direct from farm purchases, we prioritize environmentally friendly packaging. Our coffee beans are carefully packaged in recyclable materials, reducing waste and minimizing our carbon footprint. We believe that every small step towards sustainability counts, and we are constantly exploring new ways to improve our practices.
We are dedicated to reducing our energy consumption and promoting energy-efficient practices. Our roasting process is designed to minimize energy usage while maintaining the highest quality of our bitter-free coffee. We also invest in energy-efficient equipment and regularly assess our operations to identify areas for improvement.

We collaborate with the South Nation Conservatory that focuses on reforestation and water quality in our local community. By supporting these initiatives, we aim to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.
